Developmental Feedback

During a recent internship as a Peer Advisor Program Assistant, I worked develop training modules and hiring of Peer Advisors (PAs) in my department. I often delegated tasks to PAs to help with our timeline and their professional development. Feedback is extremely important in supervision. My experience working with student staff and delegating projects has given me the opportunity to set realistic goals, check in on progress, and provide developmental feedback. As often as I was able to give praise, I also needed to reinforce deadlines and provide constructive criticism and developmental feedback. I often using an appreciative mindset when providing constructive feedback, which worked well for this student. I always provide positive feedback before going in to suggestions for improvements, often asking them what they think would be the best way to go about making items more clear or organized.

The focus of this module is to give Peer Advisors an introduction to our documentation software. The is the first of four instructional documents this student created to help her fellow Peer Advisors best serve our students. Peer Advisor (PA) duties. When the documents where first submitting, the wording was confusing and they were much too long for new PAs to easily follow. After first complimenting the great time and effort she had put into the content, providing examples and some ideas for improvement, and receiving the second set of documents, they are ready to be implemented on our new training site.

Resume and Cover Letter Rubric

I created these rubrics as a tool to use during the hiring of Peer Advisors (PAs) for my current office and are built to review an undergraduate-level resume and cover letter. The current PAs assist with the hiring process, and it is important to keep their feedback objective. I took off all identification information and provided rubrics to guide their evaluation process, highlighting qualities that fit each applicant. This gives them experience in the job search process and more experience with job application materials, which expands their personal career development. Academic and Career Development at IUPUI focuses highly on the growth of their PAs and graduate students, providing robust developmental opportunities. I kept the rubrics simple and straightforward due the the level of professionalism and experience expected by student workers.

Ivy Tech Community College - Career Development Center - NACE Competency Report

While I work at the Career Development Center (CDC) at Ivy Tech, I worked to evaluate, analysis, and report out the work of the CDC in relation to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) competency standards. I created a survey, distributed it, and analysed the responses. Using the responses, i created a report that described current practices, NACE standards, and if those standards where met. For the standards that were not met, I provided suggestions for improvement.

Budget Rational Project

The administrative responsibilities associated with working on a college campus include budget management. It is becoming even more critical that professionals understand the basic budgetary models and techniques to manage university funds. Resources are becoming more and more scarce, and student affairs divisions need to understand how to generate and manage revenue. This assignment will gave me a mock sense of what is required to develop a budget for a multifaceted auxiliary department. Specifically, I developed the snapshot of the university, Carnegie classification, role of the union, generated revenue, general expenses, and fixed expenses.
